Symphyotrichum pilosum / Hairy Aster / Frost Aster
An important source of nectar and pollen for the late-season garden. This bushy aster produces abundant sprays of small, star-shaped white flowers from late summer through fall. Easy to grow, it is often covered in bees.
Place strategically in small gardens, as it can take over. At Jardin Buzz, we like to say that the hairy aster is "invasive in a good way." However, its spread must be taken into account when initially planting.
Tolerates sandy, poor or rocky soils, as well as salt. Spreads by rhizomes.
