The cardinal flower's bright red stalks attract admiration from neighbors and hummingbirds alike. The large red flowers bloom for a month and are a source of nectar for hummingbirds and swallowtail butterflies. Naturally found along river banks and marshes, Lobelia cardinalis prefers rich soils. A biennial and short-lived plant, but don't worry, Lobelia reseeds abundantly. It regenerates to provide even more beautiful red flowers!
