Andropogon gerardi "Black Hawk" / Barbon de Gérard 'Black Hawk' / Big bluestem "Black Hawk"

Bluestem is one of the few plants we sell. This native prairie grass is popular for its foliage and naturalizing benefits, as well as providing benefits to birds and pollinators. The foliage of this grass starts out dark green, then changes to a deep purple that darkens as summer turns to fall, culminating in purple flowers containing tiny white seeds. This plant is beautiful in winter and provides a screen due to its density and height.

Asters, goldenrods and milkweeds are good companions.
