Celery Butterfly / Dill / Swallowtail 5 Star Dill Blend
The multiple generations of celery moth caterpillars in my garden give this dill blend a 5-star rating! Hopefully the rave reviews will continue in your garden next summer! Plant early so the first generation of celery moth caterpillars in your area will have plenty. Oh yeah, and dill is also delicious for humans and beautiful in garden landscaping.
Pro tip: Save some seeds in case the first generation of hungry caterpillars decimate the seedlings, or plan to plant multiple times. Also, celery moth larvae are masters of disguise! Watch the first and second instars to see who is eating your dill! Finally, I tend to cover part of my “dill forest” with plastic squirrel netting to cover the caterpillars when they get big, so they don’t get picked off by birds.
Cultivation: Spread the seeds on the soil, no more than 5 mm, press gently or water to ensure contact with the soil. Dill seeds need some light to germinate!
