An early bloom, when many other plants are still dormant. Important early blooming native host plant for Black Swallowtails and Ozark Swallowtail caterpillars and also short-tongued insects. Heart shaped leaves and yellow flowers. Sun, part sun preferred, but tolerates shade.
Pro tip: Learn to identify the highly invasive Wild Parsnip ( Pastinaca sativa (Wild Parsnip) , which is taller, later blooming but has similar looking flowers. Wild Parsnip can cause skin burns.
